It's Chemical Peel Season!

We're in South Carolina where the sun is bright, harsh, and damaging for much of the year.  BUT . . . beginning in October, the level of UV starts to decline, as the sun is lower and lower in the Horizon,  and continues throughout the winter months.  As an Aesthetician, this is my favorite time of year!  Who am I kidding,  Aesthetician or not, Fall has always been my favorite season.  The reason for this Blog, however is to reflect on the professional services we can begin to transition to in the Fall.

I've heard over and over again how the words, "Chemical" and "Peel" seem to throw people off.  Bear in mind that "Peels" within Spa 131, tend to be much more superficial and never cause the sort of peeling you have read horror stories about - rather more of a "Micro" peel, helping to give you an amazing, no-makeup glow!  If your desire is to have your face peel off into your lap, your best course of action is a medical-grade peel performed by a physician.  My opinion is that is rarely necessary for the average Joe or JoAnn.

Think about it this way - - - our body produces about 19 MILLION skin cells all over.  As we age, the sloughing off and replacement of old skin cells s-l-o-w-s w---a---y  down the older we get and THAT is why we don't see that rediance we USED to have in our twenties.

Of course, we recommend home exfoliation a few times each week, but at the Spa, the deeper we go the happier the glow - with a professional aesthetic peel.  Combining that along with a Microdermabrasion gets AHHH-mazing results! The 6-pak is $550 - getting 2 FREE - PLUS 3 Free Microderms added in at alternating session PLUS 3 FREE Alginate Rose Mask for calming, soothing results. This is a GREAT package for those desiring a real, noticeable change right from the beginning.

You've heard it before - your skin is the largest organ of your body and does require special care.  Having a trained and licensed skin care professional to guide you is not only a good idea, it is vital for age-management and THIS is the best time of year to take your skincare further.

How to get the best results from Chemical Peels takes some preparation in the week proceeding your service.  The best beginning is the right cleanser.  The licensed and trained professionals at Spa 131 will be sure and prescribe the best cleanser for your skin type.  Adding a Vitamin C serum is recommended.  Avoid any other skin procedures that might cause your skin to have negative results from the scheduled peels.  Increase your sun protection before and AFTER services.  Learn about any prescription medicines that may be counter-indicated. Be sure and discuss ALL medications that you take!  Make sure and ask about proper moisturizers for your skin type and begin to use before and continue after your peels.  Additionally, your skin care professional MAY have you start on a Retinol product.  Proper care before and after will give you the desired results.

According to Skin Inc. (July 2019), WELLNESS is the Number 0ne Buzz word in the entire Spa world.  They contend that, historically, medical services within the spa industry has been associated with quick solutions rather than a lasting change. "In recent years, the mantra of wellness has become a key part of the industry.  Today, it's not enough to simply look good, you must also be healthy, so a holistic approach to self-care has become a part of many esthetic regimens."

Spa 131 is in the process of re-branding to become known as 131 Wellness Spa.  We have been providing wellness services since the beginning and now we need to differentiate ourselves from the pack.  We have found that there are folks calling themselves a "spa" all over.  It seems if a hair salon has an empty room, they bring in an Esthetician or Massage Therapist and suddenly they are a Salon & SPA.  That is not us and has never been us.  Spa 131 has always catered to the entire person -- mind, body and spirit.  Our new name will tell a more complete story.

Skin Inc continues to say, "Wellness is a concept.  Generally speaking, there is a bit of a stigma attached to the "quick fix" solutions for esthetic issues, so many practices have begun offering more natural, organic solutions and encourage more comprehensive views of patients' overall health.  After all, no medical spa wants to be featured as part of an expose on botched esthetic procedures."

We can agree that a healthy body helps contribute to a complete healthy mind and overall outlook.

In that effort, we have always offered an affordable monthly membership that can suit most everyones budget.  For a low monthly fee of $69, Guest's can receive a stress reducing massage or relaxing, refreshing facial -- or many sign up for both services.  Add ons are available and there is also a  plan for monthly waxing and lash lifts.

THE CURE Rejuvenation Ritual 

The final service is our list of Favorite Summer Menu Items is our most pampering.  We call it THE CURE.  The name really says it . . . it is the cure for any summer malaise, abused summer skin, or just for anyone needing some TLC.

THE CURE starts with a completely customized NINETY minutes of massage heaven.  Your Therapist might incorporate some cupping therapy, essential oils, hot towels, and the use of several massage techniques in order to knead your knots and meet your needs and expectations with the perfect massage.

Next, you'll get in your Spa robe and relax a little bit in our Tranquility Room with a nice cup of tea or coffee while your Esthetician prepares for the next piece of your journey to Nirvana.

Now . . . in the treatment room . . . we start with a thorough and deep cleanse of your skin using the finest botanical based products; the scent is a delicious as the service.  Next, a microdermabrasion treatment will provide exfoliation and then a plant-based enzyme applied will penetrate deep into your skin.  We could stop right here and you would be happy, but we'll continue with the most relaxing facial massage you've ever experienced -- unless you've done this service before.

The next step in THE CURE is LED Phototherapy.  Red Light Therapy was studied by NASA and was determined that the light waves actually penetrate to the cellular level, causing increased production of elastin, collagen, ATP, and all the good stuff to help us with age-management.  Oh yeah,  I said it, "AGE."  THE CURE  and LED Light Therapy is a definite step in the right direction.

After your LED mini-vacation, The CURE adds either a Rezenerate Service or Microcurrent Therapy.  Rezenerate is called, "The World's BEST Facial" because it provides the deepest penetration of product without needles.  The appropriate serum will be used to provide a customized service.

Microcurrent is regarded as the "Red Carpet" treatment because it's used in Hollywood before Red Carpet Events.  It's like a workout for your face.   The more you do it, the better results you'll see; however, your therapist will give results you'll see immediately.

Either way you choose to go -- Rezenerate OR Microcurrent -- your skin will feel firmer and you'll be glowing and completely relaxed.   What a great way to spend a summer day!
